Na de Gournay, paredes se transformam em paisagens habitadas, constru\u00eddas com t\u00e9cnicas hist\u00f3ricas, anos de forma\u00e7\u00e3o e a presen\u00e7a inconfund\u00edvel da m\u00e3o humana.<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Meu primeiro encontro verdadeiro com a de Gournay<\/a> aconteceu antes que eu conhecesse suas t\u00e9cnicas. Durante a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de uma mat\u00e9ria sobre o Le Bristol Paris, entrei em uma das su\u00edtes do hotel e, embora estivesse cercada por m\u00f3veis, sedas e uma composi\u00e7\u00e3o decorativa de enorme precis\u00e3o, foi a paisagem pintada nas paredes que reteve meu olhar. Havia uma rela\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00e3o particular entre o desenho, a arquitetura e a luz que seria dif\u00edcil imaginar aquele revestimento em qualquer outro lugar<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O Le Bristol utiliza pain\u00e9is de seda pintados \u00e0 m\u00e3o pela de Gournay na Su\u00edte Imp\u00e9riale e tamb\u00e9m no Epicure, seu restaurante com tr\u00eas estrelas Michelin. Na su\u00edte, a laca chinesa, o veludo de seda de Lyon e as paredes pintadas falam a mesma l\u00edngua, formando um interior que se modifica discretamente ao longo do dia. O que me encantou n\u00e3o foi apenas a beleza da pintura, mas a percep\u00e7\u00e3o de que ela havia sido pensada como parte da atmosfera do quarto, e n\u00e3o escolhida posteriormente para ornament\u00e1-lo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9 nessa rela\u00e7\u00e3o com o espa\u00e7o que se encontra uma das diferen\u00e7as fundamentais do trabalho da de Gournay. Enquanto um papel de parede impresso depende da repeti\u00e7\u00e3o exata de uma estampa, uma composi\u00e7\u00e3o pintada \u00e0 m\u00e3o pode acompanhar a arquitetura, fazendo um galho contornar o v\u00e3o de uma porta, posicionando um p\u00e1ssaro em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 cama ou criando uma paleta espec\u00edfica para a luminosidade do ambiente. A imagem pode surgir sobre papel Xuan, India tea paper ou seda tingida, ou ainda sobre superf\u00edcies revestidas com prata, ouro branco ou ouro profundo, \u00e0s quais se somam p\u00e1tinas, laca, baixo-relevo e bordados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A hist\u00f3ria da casa come\u00e7ou nos anos 1980, quando Claud Cecil Gurney passou a pesquisar maneiras de recuperar o esplendor dos revestimentos chineses do s\u00e9culo XVII. Em suas viagens pela China, percebeu que a produ\u00e7\u00e3o industrial havia substitu\u00eddo parte do trabalho artesanal que procurava, mas acabou encontrando artistas cujos pais e av\u00f3s ainda dominavam aqueles m\u00e9todos. Esse conhecimento serviu de base para a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de um ateli\u00ea contempor\u00e2neo capaz de preservar t\u00e9cnicas hist\u00f3ricas sem se limitar a reproduzir o passado, um trabalho do qual hoje tamb\u00e9m participam suas filhas, Hannah e Rachel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A forma\u00e7\u00e3o dos artistas do est\u00fadio chin\u00eas leva cinco anos e inclui a prepara\u00e7\u00e3o das superf\u00edcies, a constru\u00e7\u00e3o das paletas e o dom\u00ednio de repert\u00f3rios que abrangem chinoiseries, paisagens panor\u00e2micas, motivos japoneses e coreanos e geometrias Art D\u00e9co. Entre os m\u00e9todos ensinados est\u00e1 uma t\u00e9cnica com dois pinc\u00e9is, na qual o primeiro deposita a aquarela e o segundo, carregado somente com \u00e1gua, conduz o pigmento para criar uma passagem quase impercept\u00edvel entre sombra e luz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A casa relaciona essa presen\u00e7a ao conceito de \u201cspirit resonance\u201d, um dos seis princ\u00edpios cl\u00e1ssicos da pintura chinesa, baseado na ideia de que a vitalidade do artista permanece naquilo que ele cria. Sob esse ponto de vista, as pequenas diferen\u00e7as percebidas ao longo de uma superf\u00edcie n\u00e3o s\u00e3o falhas ou acidentes, mas vest\u00edgios das pessoas que participaram de sua constru\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A mesma filosofia orienta os revestimentos e tecidos com bordados feitos \u00e0 m\u00e3o sobre bases de seda, linho, veludo e cetim de l\u00e3, algumas vezes enriquecidos com fios met\u00e1licos, contas de vidro, paet\u00eas ou r\u00e1fia. Os artes\u00e3os da de Gournay tamb\u00e9m desenham e pintam porcelanas manualmente, criando aparelhos de jantar, lumin\u00e1rias, vasos e pequenas figuras a partir do conhecimento desenvolvido nos antigos ateli\u00eas chineses. As refer\u00eancias podem vir de outros s\u00e9culos, mas escala, materiais e cores s\u00e3o reinterpretados para interiores atuais, evitando que o trabalho se transforme em um exerc\u00edcio de nostalgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Essa capacidade de adapta\u00e7\u00e3o levou o trabalho da de Gournay a ambientes muito distintos, entre eles o Annabel\u2019s, em Londres, o The Colony Hotel, em Palm Beach, o Claridge\u2019s, o The Savoy e o Bergdorf Goodman, em Nova York. Em alguns projetos, a pintura permanece silenciosa entre antiguidades e tecidos, enquanto em outros estabelece o ritmo dominante da arquitetura, demonstrando que uma linguagem reconhec\u00edvel n\u00e3o precisa produzir resultados previs\u00edveis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ainda penso naquela su\u00edte do Le Bristol e no instante em que a parede deixou de parecer um fundo para adquirir uma presen\u00e7a pr\u00f3pria. Em algum lugar, um artista havia decidido a dire\u00e7\u00e3o de cada ramo, o ponto exato em que uma flor deveria se abrir e o lugar onde o olhar encontraria uma pausa antes de continuar pela paisagem. Quem tomou essas decis\u00f5es j\u00e1 n\u00e3o estava ali, mas o movimento de sua m\u00e3o permanecia vis\u00edvel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
