\n\nAntes de 1926, o rel\u00f3gio de pulso tinha um problema insol\u00favel. Poeira, umidade e a umidade ambiente do dia a dia entravam pela coroa, pela tampa traseira e pelo aro, corroendo o mecanismo interno. Um rel\u00f3gio de bolso podia suportar uma tarde em Londres. Mas n\u00e3o resistia a um mergulho, a uma tempestade ou a um turno de trabalho em uma f\u00e1brica. O rel\u00f3gio de bolso estava sendo substitu\u00eddo pelo rel\u00f3gio de pulso, mas este, apesar de toda a sua praticidade, continuava sendo um instrumento fr\u00e1gil.

Hans Wilsdorf<\/strong><\/a>, o fundador nascido na Alemanha de Rolex<\/strong><\/a>, Ele considerava essa fragilidade intoler\u00e1vel. A prova chegou no ano seguinte com uma encena\u00e7\u00e3o teatral calculada. Em outubro de 1927, a jovem secret\u00e1ria inglesa e nadadora de longa dist\u00e2ncia Mercedes Gleitze<\/strong><\/a> amarrado um Rolex Oyster<\/strong><\/a> ao seu pulso e entrou no Canal da Mancha. Ap\u00f3s mais de dez horas em \u00e1gua fria, o rel\u00f3gio emergiu funcionando perfeitamente. Wilsdorf, que entendia de narrativa t\u00e3o bem quanto de mec\u00e2nica, publicou um an\u00fancio de p\u00e1gina inteira no Daily Mail anunciando o resultado. Foi um dos primeiros exemplos do que se tornaria um marco definidor. \n\nA partir dessa \u00fanica patente, desenrolou-se um s\u00e9culo de consequ\u00eancias. A caixa Oyster tornou-se a base estrutural para praticamente todos os modelos Rolex importantes. Em 1931, Wilsdorf introduziu o rotor Perpetual, um mecanismo de corda autom\u00e1tica alimentado pelo movimento natural do pulso do usu\u00e1rio, eliminando a necessidade de corda manual. Tr\u00eas avan\u00e7os \u2014 um movimento preciso, uma caixa \u00e0 prova d'\u00e1gua e um sistema de corda autom\u00e1tica \u2014 estabeleceram a estrutura arquitet\u00f4nica do rel\u00f3gio de pulso moderno. E continuam sendo essa estrutura at\u00e9 hoje.

O Submariner surgiu em 1953, projetado para mergulho, inicialmente com resist\u00eancia \u00e0 \u00e1gua de at\u00e9 cem metros e posteriormente estendida para trezentos. Foi adotado tanto por equipes de mergulho militares quanto por velejadores amadores. O Daytona, lan\u00e7ado em 1963, combinava a caixa Oyster com um cron\u00f3grafo calibrado para cronometragem em automobilismo e tornou-se, ao longo de d\u00e9cadas de listas de espera e registros de leil\u00f5es, um dos rel\u00f3gios de pulso mais cobi\u00e7ados de todos os tempos. O Explorer, o GMT-Master, o Sea-Dweller, o Day-Date: cada um era uma varia\u00e7\u00e3o da mesma plataforma Oyster, cada um calibrado para uma atividade humana espec\u00edfica, desde alpinismo em grandes altitudes at\u00e9 avia\u00e7\u00e3o transatl\u00e2ntica e os corredores da diplomacia.

Em 2026, no evento Watches and Wonders em Genebra, a Rolex comemora o centen\u00e1rio com uma s\u00e9rie de novas refer\u00eancias do Oyster Perpetual, que funcionam tanto como homenagem quanto como continua\u00e7\u00e3o. A Rolex tamb\u00e9m apresentou novas refer\u00eancias do Oyster Perpetual nos tamanhos de 41 mm, 36 mm, 34 mm e 28 mm. O modelo principal, um Oyster Perpetual de 41 mm em Rolesor amarelo \u2014 caixa e pulseira em Oystersteel combinadas com bisel e coroa em ouro amarelo 18 quilates \u2014 traz marcadores comemorativos discretos, por\u00e9m inconfund\u00edveis: a inscri\u00e7\u00e3o \u201c100 years\u201d \u00e0s seis horas, substituindo o tradicional \u201cSwiss Made\u201d; o nome Rolex impresso no verde caracter\u00edstico da marca; e o numeral 100 gravado em relevo na coroa. A vers\u00e3o de 36 mm apresenta um mostrador Jubilee no qual as letras do nome Rolex aparecem em dez cores distintas, aplicadas em sequ\u00eancia, um raro momento de ousadia crom\u00e1tica vindo de uma marca que normalmente se comunica com discri\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/span><\/a>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n\nJuntamente com os novos rel\u00f3gios, a Rolex apresentou uma certifica\u00e7\u00e3o de Cron\u00f4metro Superlativo refor\u00e7ada para 2026, incorporando crit\u00e9rios adicionais relacionados \u00e0 resist\u00eancia magn\u00e9tica, confiabilidade a longo prazo e sustentabilidade. Isso indica que o centen\u00e1rio est\u00e1 sendo tratado n\u00e3o como um ponto final, mas como um patamar: o padr\u00e3o n\u00e3o est\u00e1 sendo mantido, mas sim elevado.

O calend\u00e1rio relojoeiro mais amplo alinhou-se com o anivers\u00e1rio. O evento Watches and Wonders 2026, que teve in\u00edcio em 14 de abril em Genebra, celebra o centen\u00e1rio do Oyster ao lado de outros marcos importantes, entre eles os cinquenta anos do Patek Philippe Nautilus e o centen\u00e1rio da marca Tudor.
